Introduce yourself:

When I studied Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Vassar, I discovered and embraced an elegant, interdisciplinary way of thinking. I still love making seemingly unrelated connections to reveal larger truths— that’s why I write. Extensive travel throughout both hemispheres during my twenties gifted me with a sense of perspective. Later, raising two kids a decade apart increased my humility right alongside my sense of humor.

Growing up with The New Yorker magazine on the coffee table in Mississippi must have sparked my love for quippy cartoons and nonfiction because I now hold an MFA in creative nonfiction. My work appears in American Book Review and Rubbertop Review. I write personal essays, poetry, and fiction and I love helping students discover the same joy I feel in crafting a unique voice for the page.
I’m happily settled in Akron, Ohio where I also enjoy cooking for family and dear friends.

Fun Facts:

  • I crossed Russia and China on the Trans-Siberian. In Winter.
  • My meringue and chocolate mushrooms look so real they spark fear in mushroom haters. Until they taste them.
  • My favorite place to read a book is in a very hot bath, with a cup of jasmine tea within reach.
