Carolyn spent her childhood in NC with her nose in a book and head in the clouds. She loves to read, especially quirky Southern writers, and write both nonfiction and made-up stuff. One of her big kahuna dreams of selling a novel recently came true; she’d like to use some of her advance to paint the front door either creamsicle orange or mermaid sea foam.
She lives in Savannah with her husband, two sons, and giant rescue pup Dale, where they spend a lot of time (sweating) outdoors and debating the ramifications of the time heist in Endgame. She’s a chapter leader for Moms Demand Action, a volunteer for the Savannah Book Festival, and underdog-rooting soccer mom. She loves practicing yoga, eating pie, grooving to her husband’s band, dolphin-spotting on Tybee, and wondering What Beyoncé Do. She can’t wait to help students share their stories and voices!
- One time I danced to a Madonna song on a table in a bar with Jimmy Fallon.
- I won the Type-a-thon in sixth grade.
- I love dark chocolate and coconut and scour my kids Halloween bags for Mounds and Almond Joys.
If I were a dean of admissions this is an essay prompt that I'd want students to answer: Tell me about a choice you made that changed your life.
What do you spend too much time doing? Freaking laundry.
Which historical figure would you like to meet? It’s probably cheating to mention more than one, but I would love to throw back a cocktail with Flannery O’Connor, Eudora Welty, and Harper Lee on a porch in Mississippi. It would be a time.
